Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.
Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.
Product Description "Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. ''Be very still,'' he whispered, as if I wasn''t already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat. " As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he''s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward''s sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer''s writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up)

Frivolous Fun November 19, 2008 Brainstorms I read the entire Twilight series after fans kept telling me that my song "Edward" reminded them of the book(s). I think "Twilight" is a fun, subtly sexy read. And Edward is indeed a lovable character! If you agree, you might enjoy my song too, so hopefully you'll check it out ;o)
Eh... November 19, 2008 So I'm sure I won't say anything that hasn't been said yet. This book was kind of addicting, considering that I read it in about 24 hours and it kept me from studying for a college final. Having said that, it has a million problems that I'm sure people have pointed out before. Infallible, one dimensional characters, utter corniness thrown from every direction, and a romance without a single kink in it or anything to make it all that interesting after it develops, which takes all of ten minutes. In my opinion, this book is Romeo and Juliet or Titanic meets Harry Potter. Now, I've been nearly crucified for comparing this to Harry Potter, and I will say that no, it's not like Harry Potter all that much; the characters in Harry Potter are actually believable, whereas here we just have... Edward. Perfect, perfect, Edward. The only reason this book sold as well as it did, and not many people will agree with this, but it's 100% true, is that girls dream of having a dude like Edward. This book is purely fantasy that plays on teenage girls' silly desires, and it probably should be kept to teenage girls.
Having thrown all that negative, the book wasn't a total waste of time, hense the three star rating, which to me means a good product. That comes from the fact that this book DID get so addicting and was easy to follow, and it was easy to root for these characters, no matter how one-dimension, and no matter how bland you had to admit the story was at the beginning. The series has potential now that the first ten chapters are out of the way, and I guess I'll give the second one a try, but I want to see some character development next time around, and maybe hey, the text could be a little more believable. That's be cool. As for now, I am totally neutral about this one.
A Students Perspective on Twilight November 19, 2008
In Twilight, Stephanie Meyer engrosses readers with the atypical love story of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. At the beginning of the novel, Bella reluctantly decides to live with her father in the small, rainy town of Forks while she completes her last two years of high school, so that her mother will be free to travel with her new basketball-playing husband. When Bella starts school she is surprised when after previously being a social outcast, she is the center of attention. Everyone seems drawn to her except Edward who tries to avoid her completely because, as she later finds out, he is afraid that he will be unable to resist the extremely appealing smell of her blood. Luckily, Edward tames his thirst, and a deep curiosity forms between the two. Bella knows that behind his gorgeous face and perfect figure there is something different about him but she cannot figure out exactly what. Edward is driven crazy when he cannot hear her thoughts (one of his supernatural abilities) and cannot understand how one ordinary girl can affect him in a way that he never has been before. As the story continues, their curiosity quickly grows into love that opens up a new world to Bella that she never knew existed and that threatens to pull the two apart. Some of my favorite aspects of Twilight are the characters of Bella and the Cullen Clan, Edwards's vampire family. Bella is a shy, quiet girl who is very mature for her age and never really fit in at school but never really wanted to. This type of personality allows many girls to connect with her character. One thing I disliked about her was her complete lack of confidence in herself and how she constantly thought that she was not good enough to be with Edward no matter how much he told her otherwise. I thought the characters of the Cullen Family, Edward's "parents", Carlisle and Esme, and his "siblings", Alice, Jasper, Emmet, and Rosalie, helped make the book more unique. In most books vampires are evil, malicious creatures but in Twilight the Cullens choose to live off the blood of animals, have superhuman strength and speed, and go about their lives pretending to be normal humans. I also thought Stephanie Meyer made a good choice concerning the setting of Twilight. Forks is a small, rural town in Washington where it is almost always raining. The town's gloomy days and dense forests create a great backdrop for the story to take place. Overall, I think Twilight is a great book that can appeal to all types of readers, even those who never would of thought that they would enjoy reading about vampires. The suspenseful plot and interesting characters keep readers hooked from the first page to the last word. Although sometimes Edward and Bella's relationship seems unrealistic and some people feel that the book lacks depth, I would still highly recommend it.
horrid claptrap November 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
nothing like a mormon to do what's been done before. is there anything new here? no no and no. and if a mormon can write about bloodsucking sex, then maybe the mormon church shouldn't be hating on the guy who created the mormon missionary calendar.
however, that said, mormons are a lot like mormons, sucking off society and taking credit for everything that's already been created, said and done. one review i read said that this book upheld "mormon values." ok, great. so comparing mormons to vampires is no problem given that both mormons and vampires suck everything around them dry...stephanie meyer has insisted that she hasn't seen a number of famous vampires on tv. IMHO...yeah right!
Love it and can't put it down November 19, 2008 I thought that I was done with vampires after Buffy but boy was I wrong! This series has quickly become one of my favorites and it seems like I never put one of the books down. I always have at least one book from the series on me! Great job and please write that 5th book. Just because people are jerks doesn't mean the rest of us have to be punished by with holding the greatness of this series!
