Amazon.com Product Description
The Wave multitool's compact folded shape hides a wealth of tools and blades within. | The Wave Multitool From Leatherman: Better than Ever
The most popular full-size Leatherman tool is now better than ever. Larger knives, stronger pliers, longer wire cutters and all-locking blades make the new Wave an essential piece of equipment for any job or adventure. The pliers have been redesigned to withstand more than double the previous squeezing load, and the new bronze bushing makes one-handed knife access a smooth operation -- plus, the one-at-a-time blade selection function means that the tool you want is the tool you get. The versatile Wave comes with a durable and attractive nylon sheath. The Wave includes several screw bits for added versatility. | Expand your Wave's capabilities with the optional bit kit, pocket clip, or lanyard ring (not included). | User Features
This Wave model has four exterior blades that can be accessed even while the tool is closed. (Note: the knife blade can only be opened when the tool is closed.) You can open the blades with one hand by placing your thumb in the thumbhole at the base of the blade, and rotating until the knife is fully extended. This securely engages the locking mechanism. The saw and file both have nail nicks at their tips for easy access. The locking mechanism is marked with a padlock symbol on the tool itself. To unlock the blades, all you have to do is press the locking mechanism toward the handle until the blade slides past the lock. Accessing the interior features is a snap, too -- just grip the handles and rotate them open. Each interior blade can be opened by using the nail nicks. The scissors extend in the very same way, and they lock into place for secure, safe use. And of course, it's easy to change the tool bits, too. Just remove the bit from the driver and pop a new one into place. Optional Accessories (not included)
Expand your Wave's capabilities with the Bit Kit, offering 21 double-ended bits. Or, you can add a pocket clip and quick-release lanyard ring. What's in the box:

Great Christmas Gift! December 26, 2008 I know nothing about tools, but after browsing the products/reviews on amazon I bought this as a Christmas gift for my fiance. I didn't even know that Leatherman was such a popular brand! His old multi-purpose tool (I found out later, it was also a Leatherman) was dull & the case was falling apart, so I put this shiny one in his stocking and he loved it! His favorite feature is the that the tools "lock out" when in use. I also bought him the accompanying bit assortmant, and he was thrilled with that as well. Within 24 hours he had used the knife to open Christmas presents, slice some tape free from a return receipt and secured my mom's toilet seat & lid with the screwdriver & bit assortment kit. I'm sure he'll get a lot of use out of it - he said it was his favorite gift!

Goodbye Swiss Army Knife! December 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Move over Swiss Army Knife - the USA finally has you beat. My nephew knows I'm an outdoor nut and I hate having a heavy toolbox, so I'm always hunting around for stuff to use. He gave me this as a surprise gift!
The Leatherman 830040 is unbelievable with nearly twenty different tools and all of them are stainless steel, easily maneuverable and sturdy as heck. (Take a look at the list of items in the product description). My favorites are the scissors, the bottle opener, the screwdriver and the bit driver (you can buy the additional bit kit, pocket clip, or lanyard ring). I see no more need for my Swiss army knife which I thought was unbeatable for all-purpose tool use. The case holds it securely to your belt or in your pocket (measures 4" X 2" X 1" thick) and is closed with a heavy Velcro flap. There is also a small pocket for additional items like other bits. All the tools are thicker and sturdier than my Swiss army knife and the saw and file are truly heavy duty. The saw and file are very tough and I actually ended up cutting myself handling the saw, it is so heavy duty. This is a keeper (not to mention a 25-year warranty).
Well made multi-tool December 3, 2008 This is by far the most popular multi-tool on the market and should last for many years of use. It may be a bit tight when you first purchase it, but a little gun oil will loosen it up.
Some have commented about the quality of the new Wave to be less than the original, but I would say that this is still a very well made tool. I like Gerber as well, but prefer the more solid feel of Leatherman tools.
The one handed, quick access to the main blades is one of the best features of this tool. The metal is ribbed on the serrated blades release point to differentiate it from the straight blade.
I do not use the included nylon sheath, but it seems of decent quality.
Good multi-tool December 1, 2008 Very good multi-tool, this is actually the second I own because I lost the first one. But it is a very nice multi tool with everything you need. The only gripe I have with it is that sometimes when you try to open it the ends of the pliers get stuck with the scissors. It is pretty annoying, but other than that, its a great tool to go with everyday.
My new favorite sidekick September 28, 2008 I deployed with this tool. This tool has just enough of what I need to do the little jobs I need it to do without all the extra, unnecessary bells and whistles. It's my new favorite sidekick.
