Does Not Work - Severely Over Priced wall ornament - Heat Radius 3 ft Max January 7, 2009 Forget using this to heat any size room larger than a very tiny 3x5 bathroom. Running 2 of these 24 hours a day in a 9x10 room only raised temp 2 degrees. Not Green as they do not provide adequate heat for energy used. You are better off buying a less expensive heater that uses somewhat more electricity but provides substantially more heat output. I have since purchased a SoleusAir Micathermic Flat Panel Heater at less than 1/2 the price of one of these, but it puts out at least twice the heat than two of these "Eco-heaters" combined using about the same amount of electricity (976 watts vs 800 watts). The Micathermic Flat Panel raised the room temperature fast and can be wall mounted or rolled around on included wheels. Not so with the "Eco-heater" which can only be wall mounted and does not provide any heat more than 3 feet from the device. Lets just say you have been warned about the pitfalls of the "Eco-heater" and if you buy it, you will come to regret that decision because it will not live up to the hype.
Only warm when you are very close to it. January 2, 2009 Exactly what the instruction says because I read a customer service reply to a reviewer stating that the equipment wasn't set up properly. I installed this back in early November when it wasn't too cold. It seemed to warm up the room without turning the central unit on. Now that the weather is freezing cold outside it doesn't do much to warm us up. When I touch the ceramic tile it's burning hot so I know its working but when you are about 3 feet away you can't tell if it's on or not without looking at the light on the switch. I'm a bit disappointed but my wife says it seems to help in between the time when the central unit is off. If I pay over $100 dollar for a space heater I expect it to warm up at least one room with the door close on a winery night. I guess it would help putting it right next to your bed and risk burning yourself while you are sleeping.
A disappointment December 31, 2008 I tried the product and was disappointed. I wall-installed it in my home office, a room that is about 18x16 feet and unfortunately, couldn't even tell it was there (even though I was only 5 feet away from it!). I would not recommend the product for that size of a room. I also tried the DeLonghi Micathermic Flat Panel in the same room and had excellent results. This is the first time I have ever tried these types of radiant heaters and I do like the idea of quiet heating.
Based on my experiences, I can't recommend the Eco-heater and I returned the product. The DeLonghi on the other hand, worked really well to heat up my office and if you are interested in a radiant heater, I do recommend it.
Whole room has to be small. December 27, 2008 Yes it works and is an elegant-looking heater from South Africa(for once I do not have a Chinese-made product!). Have to be very careful handling it, it's made of a porcelain-like material that can crack easily. My first unit was cracked during shipment but the vendor was very quick to replace the product...with better shipping/packaging. The replacement was on it's way even before I sent the damaged unit back. Very trusting vendor indeed, we need more of those! You need a few of these for a larger room, guess you cannot fool the law of physics. At 400 Watts it's good for a small 'whole' room, maybe a 10' x 12'. Takes a good 1/2 hour or more to heat up the place. It's no Ferrari, not at this price.
Eco-Heater December 22, 2008 Installed in my elderly parents upstairs bedroom....a very large room. Had to move it close to the bed but once relocated, it seems to be doing a very nice job of keeping the room warm at night. They turn their heat down to 62 and are staying warm without electric blankets or flannel sheets. Not bad for Northern New England in December.
